Who Am I?

So I've been signing up for Blog Directories like it is going out of style the past week. This process is deserving of a post of its own so I won't go into that. But each of them asks you to put your blog into a category or niche. I have to think about it every single time. I actually think I'm having a bit of a blog identity crisis. Very few of them have a handmade category which is what I consider the best fit. I recently switched my category in Entrecard from Hobby to Fashion, since that is where I saw the most other blogs similar to mine. In most of the directories I go with crafting-Knitting, but I really don't consider the blog a knitting blog. True knitting blogs are geared towards a knitting readership and talk about their projects and knitting tips. I think of most of my readers as crafters but not necessarily knitters.

I sometimes put a sub-category of small business, which I think is fairly accurate. I like talking about marketing and selling ideas but those posts take a lot out of me so they are rarer. Some directories have a shopping category which I think is pretty accurate too but I don't know if it is the best place to be to get the most views.

So all of this has got me thinking about what type of content I should be focusing on. I know when we get into the summer I won't be able to post as much at work since that is when I am busiest so I want to be able to get the most out of what I do post. I am going to start a new poll today to get your opinion about what you would like to see more of. If you have any feelings on what type of blog you think I am I would love to hear it too. I just threw a few gratuitous shots of new listings in for visual stimuli.

I am afraid I would be no help in your poll.. I would like to hear about all of those things.. Even the knitting techniques, because even though I don't knit, I would still enjoy to read about it. I may be strange like that.. I also follow a polymer clay blog, even though I don't ever touch the stuff, I still find it so interesting. LOL

But, I have the same problem.. I don't feel like my blog is easily classified.. am I a parenting blog? well... no. am I a crafting blog? well, not really. I guess I am just a mixed bag.

I hear ya and struggle with the same thing. I'm "Jewelry" but not traditional wedding jewelry, which is what most places refer to. Handmade is my place but not 'hobby' and not 'craft' ... it's tough. I picked Fashion in EC too. :)

And you're right...I don't knit but still love to visit. =)

There should be a category recognizing "The Lives of Crafters" I think. I enjoy reading your blog because I can tell that you are human! You don't only talk about knitting; your readers can enjoy your experiences which may or may not be related to knitting. So there's the business end, the life, a whole person, really. I think that's what category a lot of us etsians would fit into too. Too bad it's just imaginary.

Although my blog is called Blog About Crafts, I too am finding it a challenge to categorize it. Really ironic when you consider I run a crafting directory and it wasn't until a fellow directory owner refused to accept my blog in a craft category that I realized my site has become such a hodge podge of stuff. lol

I love the "Lives of Crafters" idea and may have to expand on that concept and add it to my directory.

I suspect part of the problem stems from how very interesting most crafters are as people. We have so many interests and rarely only make one type of craft.
